Dear Friend:
I am delighted that you are interested to know more about St. Timothy
Episcopal Church, Richland. We hope you will choose to worship with us, and will find our parish a place of welcome,
refreshment, and encouragement.
St. Timothy Church is part of the Episcopal Church, USA, and part of the worldwide communion
of Anglican Churches. We are proud of our spiritual tradition's willingness to face head on the challenges of modern
life, while seeking to be faithful to the ageless call of Jesus: "Come, follow me!" We are particularly moved
by Christ's willingness to become Incarnate among us, both fully human, and fully God. His willingness to minister to
all who came to him teaches us to look for him in the faces of all whom God calls through our doors. We also have a
strong desire to minister in Christ's Name to our community around us.
A few things about St. Timothy's "style".
- Our 9:30 a.m. Eucharist includes a blend of traditional and contemporary music.
- Our worship is in up-to-date English.
- We try to involve lay people in the leadership of our worship.
- We tend to be relaxed about dress.
- Though we are relaxed about dress, we seek to worship God with dignity "in the beauty
of holiness" (to quote the Psalms). One of the Episcopal Church's greatest strengths is the beauty of its liturgy.
Of course, there is more to church life than just Sunday morning worship. At St.
Timothy's, we think education is critically important. We offer classes for all age groups following our worship service.
Additional education for younger children (ages 4-10) takes place during the worship service, with these children joining
their families mid-way through the service for Holy Communion. Acolyting, Junior Choir, and Youth Groups serve as additional
vehicles for involving our young people in gospel oriented living. We have Vacation Bible School or a similar activity
in the summer. We also have lots of ministry and service opportunities, both within and outside the parish. Opportunities
from Altar Guild to Worship Center, they run the full gamut from A to (almost) Z! There is something for everyone, and
we have tools to help you discern what your particular ministry gifts may be!
This is probably more than enough information to get you started! I hope you'll browse
through this web site and spend a bit of time looking over the areas that particularly interest you. I enjoy talking
about our church, and would be pleased to answer any questions you may have about St. Timothy's, or just about Christianity
in general. Give me a call if I can help! Thanks again for your
interest in our parish church.
Come worship with us!
Faithfully,
H. Knute Jacobson, Rector
